Birds of Holy Island in autumn

image of bird

Autumn can be the best time for seeing birds on this beautiful island. On a typical day tour we should see large numbers of waders and duck, the only flock of Pale-bellied Brent Geese on the British mainland and either one of the UK's fastest hunters - the Merlin and the Peregrine Falcon. Migratory birds from the European continent are liable to arrive whenever the winds turn easterly, and such visitors in autumn include the occasional rare gem like the Pallas's Warbler. Yet it's just as amazing to see the spectacle of hundreds of common birds like Blackbirds and Redwing flying in from the North Sea.
